Meet Melanie Bates

Melanie Bates is a Book Shaman, a Life Coach, and, above all, a Writer, living in the Wild, Wild West with her menagerie of four-leggeds. She began her writing career at the age of seven when she penned her first brilliant short story about witches with carbuncles.

When she was only fourteen, she began her vast memoir, but found it to be quite short.

Finally, at seventeen, with her towering experience in regards to the matters of love, she dabbled in the pages of a romance novel. She's completed her first novel in a middle-grade fantasy trilogy and is currently working on a middle-grade western about a gnat named Louis.

Her 10,000 hours (of Malcolm Gladwell fame) in “applying ass to chair," obtaining a Bachelor’s in Creative Writing, along with an M.F.A., and devouring thousands of books, spawned her Book Shaman practice where she has helped New York Times bestselling authors to “transmute fuzzy thoughts into language people can understand.”

As a developmental editor, she uses her experience to bring structure and form to some really amazing books that line the shelves of your local bookstores. She brings accountability, partnership, and process to her writers, which allows them to face the blank page and actually pen their brilliant work. She works with clients writing all genres, but memoir is her specialty.
